The Maha Kumbh Mela took place on January 2001 in the city of Allahabad, India. It is considered to be the largest religious gathering in the history of mankind with more than 70 million people journeying across India and the world to be there during this auspicious lunar cycle. It is believed that spending 5 weeks on the banks of the Sangam, (where the Ganges and the Yamana rivers meet the mythical river the Sarrasweti) will complete ones life cycle. I took these photographs over a three-week period, living and breathing this incredible festival.
